Budget 2020: FM Allocates Rs 9,000 Crore for Senior Citizens' Welfare

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced the allocation of Rs 9,000 crore for welfare of senior citizens during the presentation of Budget 2020. Along with that, the finance minister also allocated Rs 53,700 crore for the uplift of Scheduled Tribes, and Rs 85,000 crore for the welfare of Scheduled castes and Other Backward Classes. Presenting the Budget, the finance minister proposed a computer-based online common eligibility test for recruitment for non-gazetted government posts. The government has also proposed to set up a National Police University and a National Forensic Science University. According to new proposals announced in the budget, urban local bodies will provide internship to young engineers for a year so that they get an idea about the functioning of the government. At the start of her Budget speech, the finance minister said that the three major themes of the Budget are aspirational India, a caring society and economic development for all.
