Finance Ministry Launches Drive to Meet FY20 Revenue Target

Following growing concerns over the sluggish economy and tax collections, the finance ministry has exhorted directly as well as indirect tax officials to make an all-out effort to meet the budgeted targets for revenue collections without harassing taxpayers in the remaining three months of the current fiscal ending 31 March.
“Revenue secretary Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey had a video conference meeting with all the members of the boards – CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) and CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes), principal chief commissioners and chief commissioners and other senior officers on Monday, 16th December, and told them that the GST target for the next four collection months are put at Rs.1.10 trillion for every month besides the target of Rs.1.25 trillion for one out of these four months,” a finance ministry official said, reports Livemint.
The revenue department has also told the direct tax officials that the corporate tax relief worth Rs. 1.45 trillion should not be taken as an excuse for lesser direct tax collection target.
