Google Pulls Down Paytm App from Play Store

Google pulls down Fintech major Paytm on Friday, from its app store for allegedly violating the company’s gambling policy. It has taken several other apps for its app store for violating the gambling policy.

Recently, Paytm has roped in Sachin Tendulkar, it’s brand ambassador. Sachin on becoming its ambassador has said that through Paytm First Games, fans would have the opportunity to think and experience the thrill of making the correct choices by getting their teams to win.

This year Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start from 19 September in UAE. Every year there is often a surge in the launching of such gambling types apps before the major sporting tournament like IPL.

Suzanne Frey, Vice President, Product, Android Security and Privacy at Google, said that Google does not allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that are allowing sports betting.

“And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts. Our policies are applied and enforced on all developers consistently,” she said.

It is the first time when Paytm’s main application has been removed from the Google Play Store, while its other apps including Paytm Money; merchant app, Paytm for Business; movie ticketing application, Paytm Insider are currently present on Play Store.
