Govt has given approval to launch of Rs.9,000 cr NNM

The government has given approval to the launch of the National Nutrition Mission (NNM), to address the problems of under-nutrition, low birthweight and stunting. It has a budget of Rs.9,046 crore for a period of 3 years.

This mission, has a target to reduce under-nutrition and low birthweight by 2% each year. It will also aim to bring down anemia among young children, women and adolescent girls by 3% per year.

All the districts will be covered under the mission in a phased manner- 315 districts in 2017-18, 235 districts in 2018-19 and remaining districts in 2019-2020 and more than 10 crore people will be benefited from the programme.

Moreover, as per R K Shrivastava, Women and Child Development Secretary, Aadhaar card is a mandatory requirement to take the benefits of the mission.
