IndiGo Appoints Ronojoy Dutta As The Airline’s CEO

Interglobe aviation, the parent company of IndiGo airlines, has appointed Ronojoy Dutta as the chief executive officer for the period of five years. The appointment of Dutta comes as the airline plans a major international expansion in the upcoming period.

Dutta would be replacing the company’s co-founder and interim CEO Rahul Bhatia as the CEO. Dutta is a B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology and MBA from Harvard Business School. He has also served as the president of Air Sahara from 2005 to 2008.

Dutta in a statement said, “IndiGo has had a phenomenal success in establishing itself as a world-class airline, and I am so very happy to be given this opportunity to be a part of it.” The 67-year-old airline veteran was also the president of United Airlines, where he worked for nearly 20 years. He was also an adviser to the restructuring of both Air Canada and U.S. Airways.

On the side note, IndiGo airline also appointed M Damodaran, who is a  former Chairman of the Securities Exchange Board of India, as the chairman of the IndiGo’s board of directors. He was currently serving as the Independent Non-Executive Director for the company.
