PM Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi to Meet Virtually at BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping after attending the SCO Summit, will again meet virtually at the BRICS Summit to be held on Tuesday.
At the SCO Summit, PM Narendra Modi in Xi Jinping’s presence has said that all the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation should respect each others’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. PM Modi made the remarks in backdrop of the tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
Russia holds the presidency for both the BRICS and SCO for 2020, hopes that the summit held virtually would result in reducing tensions between the India and China. It will also focus to control COVID-19 pandemic and boost economic recovery. BRICS Economic Partnership 2020-2025 is also expected to be announced at the summit, people aware of the development said.
Proposals also include the creation of an early warning system for epidemiological threats and development of regulations for medical products to improve BRICS’s ability to cope up with the pandemic. Agreements for facilitating trade, investments and participations of SMEs in international trade to be expected to sign for supporting speedy recovery of the BRICS economies, said the people cited above.
The BRICS Economic Partnership will help the five countries step into the new industrial revolution and promote shared interests in sustainable trade and investment without barriers and sanctions. The partnership will also help in advancing the digital economy, to develop science, technology and innovation and for promoting sustainable growth and balanced development in the context of climate change, energy, human capital development and food securities, said the people.
