Indian Railways Launch 10 'Sewa Service' Trains

The Indian railways on Tuesday have inaugurated 10 ‘Sewa Service’ trains to connect small towns with their closest major cities and ease the hassle of travelling for daily passengers.
Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal will flag off the Sewa Service train between Delhi and Shamli at New Delhi along with health minister Harsh Vardhan and oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Minister of state for railways Suresh C. Angadi will also be present at the launch.
Sewa Service trains between Delhi and Shamli, Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh town, Murkongselex and Dibrugarh, Kota and Jhalawar City and Coimbatore and Palani will run as a daily passenger train, effective 15 October. Goyal will also flag off other trains through video-conferencing.
Trains between Vadnagar and Mahesana, Asarva and Himmatnagar, Karur and Salem, Yesvantpur and Tumkur and Coimbatore and Pollachi will operate six days a week.
The railways introduced Sewa Service trains to ensure congestion-free roads and faster ease of movement for the public. These trains will also help divert short distance traffic from roads to the railways.
In another development, the railways launched a website and mobile app that allows passengers to register their complaints online. This will facilitate the railway police in addressing complaints of passengers from across India and crime detection by integrating the criminal database online.
The Sahyadri app will help railway passengers find out the jurisdiction of a police station and the details of government railway police (GRP) officials by geotagging with Google Maps. The app will also have the facility to scan and read QR (quick response) codes and make an emergency call.
