Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) said that as part of his enormous pan-India plan, the company will roll out an e-commerce platform for more than 1.2 million retailers and store owners in Gujarat.
While addressing the inaugural function of the Vibrant Gujarat Global summit, Ambani said, “Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail will launch a unique new commerce platform to empower and enrich our 12 lakh small retailers and shopkeepers in Gujarat, which are part of the over 3 crore community in India,”
Ambani’s plan is to create an innovative online-to-offline (O2O) model in which a consumer is drawn into making online searches for purchases that are made in a physical store. Then the merchants, who will be consolidated under the platform, will cater to the demand from the customers.
Mukesh Ambani during the summit in Gandhinagar, also added, “In this new world, data is the new oil. Data is the new wealth. India’s data must be controlled and owned by Indian people and not by corporates, especially global corporations. For India to succeed in this data-driven revolution, we will have to migrate the control and ownership of Indian data back to India, in other words, Indian wealth back to every Indian.”
