Royal Enfield, the motorcycle unit of Eicher Motors Ltd, has unleashed the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 into the Indian twin-cylinder motorcycle market. The Interceptor 650 is priced at Rs. 2.50 lakh and the Continental GT 650 at Rs. 2.65 lakhs. The prices have now directly pitted the twins against the BMW 310 R and BMW G310GS in India.

The new Royal Enfield release is now the cheapest twin-cylinder motorcycles available in the market. The cheapest twin-cylinder motorcycles after the Royal Enfield 650 twins are the Kawasaki Ninja 300 at Rs 3.35 lakh and the Yamaha YZF R3 at Rs 3.49 lakh.

Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are both powered by 648cc twin-cylinder oil and air-cooled engine designed by the UK-based Harris Performance, and have an output of 47 BHP at 7,100rpm and boasts 52 NM of torque at 4,000rpm.

The motorcycles will come with a three-year warranty and roadside assistance service. Also, the ABS is standard equipment on the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT as is a slip-assist clutch.

Siddhartha Lal, chief executive of Royal Enfield, said, “ We strongly believe that the 650 twins will be attractive, evocative motorcycles for our customers across India.” The online bookings for the 650 twins will commence today and showroom bookings will start tomorrow. Deliveries of the motorcycles are expected to begin by November-end across all the across dealerships.

The Interceptor 650 will be available in six colours whereas Continental GT 650 can be purchased in five colours.
