To make Delhi slum free, the govt needs at least Rs 50,000 crore

The government will have to spend over Rs 50,000 crore to make Delhi slum free, the amount is more than one and half years’ budget allocation for the city.

In the last financial year, the annual outlay for the national capital was over Rs 35,000 crore.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board have sent a detailed report in this regard to the urban development department and once it has been cleared by the the Delhi government, the plan will be forwarded to the Union ministry of housing and poverty alleviation for its approval.

Currently around 45,000 flats are being constructed by DSIIDC, DDA and DUSIB.

Ashish Joshi, member (finance) of DUSIB, said, “To make the city slum-free, it is critical to overcome multiplicity of authorities and make one agency like DUSIB the nodal implementing agency.”
