TRAI Publishes Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report

According to the TRAI report, released on Wednesday, i.e. 03/10/2018, the gross revenue (GR) of telecom service providers and licence fee paid to the government declined by around 10% on year-on-year basis to Rs. 58,401 crores and Rs. 2,929 crores, respectively, in the April-June quarter of 2018.

Trai’s Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator report said, “Gross revenue (GR) and adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of the telecom service sector for the quarter ended June 2018 has been ? 58,401 crores and ? 36,552 crores, respectively.”

The GR declined by 10% and AGR went down by 8.11%, year-on-year basis. However on a quarter-on-quarter basis,  AGR increased by 2.40% meanwhile the GR declined by 6.10%, in June quarter of 2018.

According to the report, the decline in AGR, which is revenue earned from the sale of telecom services, led to falling in licence fees paid to the government to Rs. 2,929 crore posting a decline by around 10%. The revenue of telecom operators from the sale of services to retail subscribers officially called as access services, went downwards by 14.95% to Rs. 25,585 crore.

Also, according to the quarterly report, Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio recorded an AGR from access services or revenue derived from licensed services of Rs. 7,125 crores for the June quarter of 2018, posting a 14.6% from the previous quarter, while Airtel’s AGR fell 5.1% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 6,723 crores.

Thus according to the report, Reliance Jio Infocomm has become the second largest telecom operator in terms of adjusted gross revenue (AGR), surpassing Bharti Airtel, in the June-end quarter.
