45 Bills in 31 Sittings Planned for Budget Session

Parliament’s budget session which commences on Friday will hold 31 sittings and last till April 3. The government has identified 45 bills and seven financial items to be taken up during the session. At a meeting attended by representatives of 26 political parties on the eve of the session in New Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Parliament would discuss the nation’s economic situation during the session.
“Most members have asked for discussion on the economic situation in the country. I welcome this and we need to discuss economic issues as you all have suggested. We should focus on how we can turn the global scenario in India’s favour,” Modi said. It would be in the best interest of the country to give proper direction to the economy during the session, he said.
Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, raised the issue of protests, following the Citizenship Amendment Act Parliament had passed in the last session, and release of political prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir. “We brought the government’s attention to the protests. The government has displayed arrogance by not reaching out to protesters and hear their concerns. The economic condition is worsening, GDP growth is down and unemployment is at its peak,” said Azad after the meeting.
