5U AI, a Munich-based freight technology startup, has raised $3.2 million in pre-seed funding to expand its AI-powered platform for freight forwarding companies.
The round was led by Emerge Capital, with several senior executives from major logistics companies also participating.
The startup is building what it calls AI Workers, digital tools designed to handle repetitive tasks that freight forwarding teams deal with every day. These include preparing quotes, booking shipments, tracking deliveries and managing information spread across emails and spreadsheets.
By automating these tasks, 5U AI aims to help freight companies respond faster while reducing the amount of manual work involved in managing shipments. The company is focusing initially on the European freight forwarding market, where it sees an opportunity to improve operations without requiring businesses to completely change their existing systems.
The funding round also attracted experienced investors from the logistics industry, including executives associated with DHL, GEODIS, DSV, Maersk and CEVA Logistics. Their participation gives the startup access to industry knowledge as it develops its technology and expands its customer base.
5U AI is already working with TCI International Logistics across both air and ocean freight, giving the startup an early commercial foothold. The fresh capital is expected to support product development, team expansion and wider adoption of its platform.
The fundraise highlights the growing role of AI in logistics, an industry where large volumes of paperwork, emails and shipment updates still require human intervention. As freight companies look for ways to improve efficiency and manage rising operational complexity, automation startups such as 5U AI are attracting increasing investor attention.
