Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his administration is lifting lockdown from November 1 to revive the Covid-hit tourism industry. On World Tourism Day, he declared a relief package of Rs 2 lakh each to 142 tour operators and Rs 25K each to 605 guides to defeat losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Assam is working to relieve all Covid restrictions from November 1 and also making all-out efforts to make sure that the maximum number of people get vaccine doses,” he said.

The minister requested tour operators to promote places in Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, Bodoland Totrerritorial Region (BTR) and other state regions by taking advantage of the peaceful situation. He appreciated the Indian Railways action to start the Vistadome service from Guwahati to New Haflong in Dima Hasao, an excellent way to popularise the hill station.

Tourism Minister Bimal Bora mentioned the importance of domestic travellers to revive the tourism industry. Meanwhile, India Tourism (North East) Regional Director Sankha Subhra Devburman waved off a vintage car rally from the Chandamri field at World Tourism Day.
