Two thousand three hundred eighty-seven deaths have been reported so far, but the death rate during the Omicron wave has been lower than the previous covid outbreaks. Around 92 per cent of people are vaccinated, and the booster programme has also picked pace. The increasing hospitalisation numbers forced the Australian government to restrict states. Authorities have revised compulsory isolation rules for close contacts and are still reviewing the rules for furloughing workers that have broadened supply chain gaps.
