Taking forward the clarion call by PM Narendra Modi to stop single-use plastics, the Environment Ministry has released guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on plastic packaging, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said.

Announcing the notification of the New Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2022 through social media, Yadav said that the rules provide a framework to strengthen the circular economy of plastic packaging waste and promote options for plastic. The guidelines not only give a framework to strengthen the circular economy of plastic packaging waste but also promote the development of new alternatives to plastics. They deliver a roadmap for businesses to move towards sustainable plastic packaging, Yadav said on aTwitter.
