PM Narendra Modi called for a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy to stop the crisis in Ukraine as the Quad leaders discussed the Russian attack in Ukraine. A joint statement released by the White House said, โThe Quad leaders talked about the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and evaluated its broader implications. They agreed to build new humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mechanism which will allow the Quad to meet future humanitarian challenges in the Indo-Pacific and give a channel for discussions as they each address and respond to the crisis in Ukraine.โ
An Indian statement said, โThe Prime Minister stressed the need to return to a path of dialogue and diplomacy. He underlined that the Quad must focus on its purpose of promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and stick to the UN Charter, international law and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. The meeting reviewed the progress on Quad initiatives since September 2021 Quad Summit. The leaders agreed on revving cooperation, intending to achieve tangible outcomes by the summit in Japan.โ

The joint statement said that the meeting was called to reaffirm the commitment of the leaders to a free and open Indo-Pacific, in which the independence and territorial integrity of all states is respected, and countries are โfree from military, economic, and political pressure.โ It said the leaders pledged to promote regional stability and prosperity.
