Counting votes for 117 assembly seats in Punjab started amid tight security arrangements. Around 7,500 personnel have been appointed for the counting process, which began at 8 am at 66 locations in the state. Three-tier security has been set up with the deployment of 45 companies of Central Armed Police Forces at the counting centres.

CRPC section 144 has been forced in all the districts, and the gathering of people outside the counting centres has been restricted. Various exit polls have predicted that the Aam Aadmi Party will form the next government in Punjab. The state recorded a voter turnout of 71.95 per cent. It was the lowest voting percentage seen in the last three assembly elections.
