Consumer protection watchdog CCPA said on Friday it had issued notices to taxi aggregators Ola and Uber alleging unfair trade practices and consumer rights violations.

“We have notified Ola and Uber. Most of the consumer complaints received over the past year are related to underserved and other unfair trade practices,” Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) chief commissioner Nidhi Khare told PTI.

At a meeting with taxi aggregators on May 10, the government warned of drastic measures unless they improve their systems and address rising consumer complaints.

“We have told them about the growing consumer complaints against their platform. We have also provided their statistics. We have asked them to improve their system and resolve consumer complaints otherwise the appropriate authorities will take strict action,” said Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said after the meeting. Representatives from Ola, Uber, Meru, Rapido and Jugnu attended.
