Under tight security, the first group of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left Jammu on Wednesday morning for the Kashmir Valley, where they will make their pilgrimage to Shiva Cave in the Himalayas in southern Kashmir.

The 43-day pilgrimage began Thursday from the Pahalgam and Baltal forts in Kashmir and was declared over by the Lieutenant Governor of the United Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.

The pilgrimage was held after a lapse of two years. Section 370, which guaranteed the state of Jammu and Kashmir special status, was repealed as Covid-19 became unavailable in 2020 and 2021 and was abruptly abolished by the government in mid-2019.
