A report on Friday showed that the installed base of smartphones with 5G capabilities crossed five crores in India.
5G smartphone shipment share constitutes 29% (highest of all time) of overall shipments in the second quarter. With an auction of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore for the 5G spectrum, the government remains firm as far as 5G adoption is concerned.

India’s total smartphone installed base crossed 600 million during the April-June quarter. Although the value is rising, it has been observed that consumers prefer to repair their devices rather than buy a new one. The decline in demand can also be observed in the feature phone market registered a decrease of 17%.

Moreover, India’s overall mobile handset market grew 6% (on-year basis) but declined 9% every quarter.
