Shree Cement to Achieve More Milestones: CEO Bangur

Shree Cement has become a significant cement company in the last two decades. It has achieved a milestone by becoming the third largest cement firm in the country. CMD H M Bangur, in an interview, has said that the company has come too far from a 2 million tonnes (mt) production capacity to an installed capacity of 43.3 mt in India and 47.4 mt overseas.

He said that international fuel prices impacted the industry after the Ukraine war, which affected its profits in Q1. The prices have started softening now. However, volumes are affected by rains during the Monsoon season. Therefore, Q2 profitability will be like Q1. According to him, the cement requirement will be very high in future.
He further said the firm has three upcoming expansion projects- Purulia in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.
The target capacity is 80 mt capacity by 2030. The company is buying land in many places and applying for environmental clearances. CMD reported that except for a grinding unit in Panipat, most of the projects are greenfield. The company also has an acquisition in UAE.

When asked about overseas plans, he said the Indian market is growing faster than the world. So the company aims to cater to the demand of Indian consumers. He asserted that order is perfect. It is estimated that every year there is a 5-7% growth in demand.

Headquartered in Kolkata, Shree Cement is a cement manufacturer founded by the Bangur family in 1979, it is one of the biggest cement makers in Northern India.
