US-listed Cummins Inc said on Monday it had signed an agreement with Indian automaker Tata Motors to develop hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, fuel cells and electric vehicle systems for commercial vehicles in India.
As India aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, several automakers, including Tata Motors, are aggressively switching to greener forms of vehicle energy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
The company said that India will be one of the first markets to receive Cummins hydrogen engines. Tata, one of India’s largest EV makers, launched the country’s first sub-$10,000 EV in September.
