Centre to Launch Rs 75 Coin to Commemorate Opening of New Parliament Building

Centre to launch Rs 75 coin to mark new Parliament building's inauguration.

The Centre will issue a special commemorative coin of Rs 75 to mark the opening of the new parliament building, the finance ministry said in a notification on Thursday.

“On the occasion of the inauguration of the new parliament building, under the mandate of the central government, coins of Rs 75 denomination will be minted at the mint,” it said.

“The Rs 75 denomination shall be coined at the mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Parliament building,” it said.

In India, under the Coinage Act of 1906, the responsibility for designing and minting coin vests with the Centre. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is in charge of circulating these coins.

“These rules may be referred to as the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the Occasion of New Parliament Building) Rules 2023,” the notification read.

According to the notification, the Rs 75 coin will be round in shape with a diameter of 44mm. It will have 200 serrations.

The coin will be composed of a quaternary alloy containing 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel and 5% zinc.

The face of the coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the inscription “Satyameva Jayate” underneath. On the left edge, the coin will have “Bharat” written in Devanagari and “India” in English on the right edge.

It will also feature the rupee symbol and face value “75” in the international numerals below the Lion Capital.

The other side of the coin will feature an image of the new parliament building. The inscription “Sansad Sankul” will be written on the upper margin in the Devanagari script. The lower edge of the coin will have the words “Parliament Complex” written in English.

The international numeral “2023” shall be written under the image of the new parliament.
