Legal experts call the verdict a game-changer, urging exporters to file refund claims quickly.

India’s GST collection grew 7.3% year-over-year in December, reaching Rs 1.77 lakh crore, up from Rs 1.65 lakh crore in December last year.

December’s GST revenue includes Rs 32,836 crore from Central GST, Rs 40,499 crore from State GST, Rs 47,783 crore from Integrated GST, and Rs 11,471 crore from cess.

GST from domestic transactions grew by 8.4% to Rs 1.32 lakh crore, while revenue from imports rose by 4% to Rs 44,268 crore.

December’s collection of Rs 1.77 lakh crore is lower than November’s Rs 1.82 lakh crore but shows solid growth.

The highest GST collection was in April 2024, exceeding Rs 2.10 lakh crore.

Refunds issued in December increased by 31% to Rs 22,490 crore, with net GST collection reaching Rs 1.54 lakh crore, a 3.3% rise.

The steady increase in GST collections reflects strong economic activity and better compliance under India’s tax system.
