India is set to develop its first offshore airport near Mumbai on an artificial island, similar to those in Hong Kong and Osaka, as part of a major infrastructure push.

The airport will be located near the Vadhvan seaport, about 125 km from Mumbai’s existing international airport.

Federal and state authorities have granted initial approvals, and feasibility studies will begin soon.

The project aims to boost connectivity while avoiding land acquisition delays that often slow infrastructure projects in India.

A bullet train station is planned near the airport, linking it to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor.

Major highways, including Delhi-Mumbai and Mumbai-Vadodara, will connect to the airport for faster access.
