Duolingo Rolls Out 28 New Language Courses for Indian Users in Major Expansion

The new courses follow Duolingo’s gamified model.

Duolingo has launched 28 new language courses tailored for Indian users, allowing learners to study global languages like Spanish, French, Korean, and Japanese in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu.

It’s the company’s largest content rollout yet, aiming to make language learning more accessible, especially for non-metro cities users who prefer learning their native languages.

Duolingo has seen rising interest from non-metro users learning English through Indian languages — a trend that encouraged this expansion, according to Regional Marketing Director Karandeep Singh Kapany.

The new courses follow Duolingo’s gamified model, offering offline access, playful characters, and interactive stories, and are targeted at beginners (CEFR A1–A2), with advanced levels coming in 2025.

The move is meant to expand access to education, career growth, and cultural exchange by letting Indians learn a language they’re comfortable with.

CEO Luis von Ahn said that Generative AI helped Duolingo speed up development, with nearly 150 new courses created in under a year — more than doubling its total offerings in record time.
