Elon Muskβs Starlink is preparing to launch satellite internet services in India, offering unlimited data plans starting at Rs 3,000 per month. Users will also need to pay a one-time fee of Rs 33,000 for the companyβs satellite receiver hardware.
The company has received a key licence from the Ministry of Telecommunications, a major step towards entering the Indian market and expanding its global satellite broadband reach.
Starlink is now the third company cleared by the Department of Telecommunications to offer satellite-based services in India, following Bharti Airtel-backed OneWeb and Reliance Jio.
The pricing strategy mirrors Starlinkβs recently launched services in Bangladesh, suggesting the company is aiming for affordability and regional parity in South Asia.
However, to begin commercial operations in India, Starlink still needs authorisation from IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre), the body overseeing private space ventures.
Additionally, the company must secure spectrum allocation and establish local ground infrastructure before rolling out its services to Indian consumers.
