SECI is finalising a major tender to produce and supply 7.24 lakh tonnes of green ammonia annually for 13 fertiliser plants under Indiaβs green hydrogen push.
Green ammonia will replace fossil fuel-based ammonia, which is currently used in fertilisers and causes high emissions.
The tender includes 10-year offtake agreements, providing producers with long-term market certainty, with the bid deadline set for 26th June 2025.
The government will provide PLI incentives of Rs 8.82/kg, Rs 7.06/kg, and Rs 5.30/kg for the first 3 yearsβadding up to Rs 1,533.4 crore in support.
A payment security mechanism is in place to protect producers from delays by fertiliser companies. India uses 17β19 million tonnes of ammonia yearly, most of it made using imported natural gasβSECIβs plan will cut this reliance and reduce emissions.
