Indian Railways has launched a new AI-powered system called the Machine Vision-Based Inspection System (MVIS) to improve train safety and efficiency.
Developed with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India, MVIS uses high-resolution cameras and intelligent software to inspect trains in real time.
The system can quickly detect issues like hairline cracks, loose fittings, and other mechanical faults, cutting inspection time from hours to seconds.
MVIS enables continuous monitoring without disrupting services, reducing reliance on manual checks and allowing skilled workers to focus on repairs.
Early detection of faults helps prevent breakdowns, delays, and service disruptions, making train operations more reliable and safer.
This move is part of Indian Railways’ broader digital transformation, aiming to improve service quality, safety, and punctuality through technology.
