Shares of Sun Pharma Industries Ltd rose 2.5% to touch a day’s high of Rs 1,728 on 15th July, after the company announced yesterday the US launch of LEQSELVI (deuruxolitinib) 8 mg tablets for treating adults with severe alopecia areata. The drug is now available nationwide to healthcare providers and eligible patients.

The launch of LEQSELVI follows a recent settlement and license agreement between Sun Pharma and Incyte Corporation, resolving a legal dispute in the US District Court of New Jersey. Both companies will now seek to dismiss the case.

As part of the deal, Sun Pharma has received a limited, non-exclusive license to use Incyte’s patents for non-cancer uses, including alopecia areata. Sun will make an upfront payment and ongoing royalties to Incyte until the patent expires. Other details remain confidential.

LEQSELVI showed promising results in clinical trials—around one-third of patients regained nearly full scalp hair by Week 24, while 3% saw 80% or more scalp coverage within 8 weeks.

Sun Pharma North America CEO Richard Ascroft said the launch brings a much-needed new treatment option to patients and doctors. Severe alopecia areata can lead to emotional distress and loss of confidence, making effective treatments especially important.
