Airtel Unveils Home-Grown Cloud to Drive ‘Sizeable’ Revenue Growth

Airtel
Airtel credited its AI-powered spam and fraud detection tools for the decline.

Bharti Airtel’s tech arm, Xtelify, has launched Airtel Cloud, a sovereign, telco-grade cloud platform designed to handle up to 140 crore transactions per minute. Initially developed for Airtel’s internal use, it is now open to businesses across India, offering IaaS, PaaS, GenAI-powered provisioning, secure data controls within India, and up to 40% savings on cloud costs.

Xtelify also introduced an AI-powered telecom software platform to help telcos streamline operations, improve customer service, and increase revenue. It has partnered with Singtel, Globe Telecom, and Airtel Africa to deploy its AI tools across 14 countries.

Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal said the cloud business will become a ‘sizeable’ part of revenue in the mid-to-long term, with interest from 50-60 companies in banking and manufacturing. He stressed that Airtel Cloud’s telecom-grade reliability and local data storage will be key advantages under India’s data protection laws.

Vittal ruled out developing an in-house LLM due to high costs, stating Airtel would instead use and refine open-source models for tailored solutions.
