137 kmph Storm Hits Scotland, Halts Trains and Disrupts Festivals

Storm Floris
Storm Floris is also set to impact Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern England.

A rare summer storm with winds reaching 137 kmph has battered Scotland, forcing train cancellations, ferry disruptions, and festival shutdowns at the peak of the tourist season. The UK Met Office issued an β€œamber” wind warning for Storm Floris, cautioning of risks to lives and property, especially in coastal areas, alongside heavy rain.

The timing has hit Scotland’s cultural calendar hard. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo cancelled its outdoor performance at Edinburgh Castle. Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Fringe and other arts festivals faced major disruptions. This impacted hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Authorities urged caution. They advised people to travel as if in winter and carry essentials such as warm clothing, food, and charged phones. ScotRail warned residents to secure garden equipment, such as trampolines or tents. This was to prevent it from blowing onto the tracks.

Storm Floris, named by weather authorities, is also expected to affect parts of Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern England. It continues to sweep through northern Britain.
