Marking 60 years of diplomatic ties, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is set to visit India from 2nd to 4th September. This will be his first visit since taking office in May 2024. The visit carries both symbolic and strategic weight. Five agreements in areas like shipping, aviation, and space are expected to be signed. These agreements reflect the growing depth of the partnership.

Wong and PM Narendra Modi will jointly inaugurate a $1 billion container terminal in Maharashtra on 4th September. This underscores Singapore’s strong investment presence in India. 

The Singapore leader will also meet President Droupadi Murmu. He will engage with senior cabinet ministers and hold a closed-door roundtable with Indian business leaders.

The visit comes at a time when Singapore continues to lead as India’s largest FDI source. It contributes nearly $15 billion in 2024-25. With ties elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Modi’s Singapore trip in 2024, Wong’s maiden visit signals a renewed push. The aim is to strengthen cooperation across sectors while celebrating six decades of friendship.
