Tata Electronics and Merck signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 2nd September to strengthen India’s semiconductor capabilities. The partnership focuses on semiconductor materials, fabrication infrastructure, and distribution of speciality chemicals and gases.
Merck will provide Tata Electronics with high-purity materials, advanced gas and chemical delivery systems, and turnkey fab infrastructure. Additionally, they will offer AI-powered Material Intelligence solutions for its Dholera Fab in Gujarat. The collaboration also includes safety and production best practices. Tata Electronics will have access to Merck’s Athinia data analytics platform, local warehousing, raw material supply chain development, and talent cultivation.
This partnership supports the India Semiconductor Mission. It marks an early step in building India’s indigenous semiconductor ecosystem. Tata Electronics is investing Rs 91,000 crore ($11 billion) in its first Fab in Dholera. This facility will produce chips for automotive, mobile, AI, and other critical sectors for global clients.
Tata Electronics CEO Dr Randhir Thakur said the collaboration with Merck brings world-class expertise. It will help build a resilient ecosystem, accelerate the Dholera Fab, and set new standards in quality, safety, and innovation. Merck CEO Dr Kai Beckmann added that the partnership aligns with Merck’s strategy. It aims to support India’s semiconductor growth with safety, precision, and innovation.
