Google is bringing its Gemini AI to more platforms, starting with Chrome on US desktops this Thursday. The update will initially reach Mac and Windows users with English settings. It will soon be extended to the iOS Chrome app and Google Workspace for businesses.
Gemini in Chrome will connect with Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. Later, it will gain advanced features like handling multi-step tasks. It will also recall visited pages and summarise content across sites.
The move follows a court ruling allowing Google to keep control of Chrome and Android. However, this ruling limits some exclusive deals and requires data sharing with competitors.
Despite regulatory pressure and competition from AI browsers like Perplexityβs Comet, Google is pushing ahead with AI upgrades. The competition, Comet, recently made a $34.5 billion offer for Chrome. Reports also say Apple is in talks to use Gemini to enhance Siri.
