In a significant move towards sustainable defence mobility, the Indian Army has signed a Rs 130.58 crore contract with JBM Auto Ltd. They will procure 113 electric buses along with 43 fast chargers. Signed on 17th October 2025, this deal marks the Army’s first major induction of electric buses into its fleet. It signals a shift towards cleaner and greener transport solutions.

The initiative aligns with the government’s PM E-Drive programme. This program aims to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility across India. By introducing electric buses, the Army seeks to modernise its transport fleet. It also aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to the country’s broader goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

This procurement falls under the Buy (Indian–IDDM) category — Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured. It reflects the Army’s focus on promoting local defence production and supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
