Delhi Completes Cloud-Seeding Process, Artificial Rain Expected Soon

Delhi
The move comes as Delhi’s AQI hit 305, marking ‘very poor’ air quality on Tuesday morning.

Delhi’s bold experiment to fight pollution has taken to the skies — literally. The city has completed its second round of cloud seeding. This aims to trigger artificial rainfall to help clean its polluted air.

The trial, conducted on 28th October across areas such as Khekra, Burari, North Karol Bagh, and Mayur Vihar, used eight chemical flares. Each flare weighed 2-2.5 kg to seed the clouds. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and IIT Kanpur, artificial rain could occur anytime between 15 minutes and four hours after seeding.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called the initiative an “experiment” to find new ways to reduce pollution. She added that, if successful, it could provide long-term relief for Delhiites.

This move comes as Delhi’s air quality continues to deteriorate. The Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 305 — classified as ‘very poor’ — on Tuesday morning.

The aircraft used for the operation took off from Kanpur and was later stationed at Meerut airport. Delhi officials reaffirmed their commitment to using advanced global technologies to make the national capital cleaner and healthier.
