Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd. (SDHI) announced that it had inked an exclusive Teaming Agreement (TA) with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) during the flagship India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) in Mumbai. The collaboration will centre on the design and construction of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) for the Indian Navy.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the acquisition of LPDs, which will help the Indian Navy project power, conduct amphibious operations, and provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.

Under the Teaming Agreement, MDL will provide its significant experience in ship design, project management, and system integration, while SDHI will give its world-class shipbuilding infrastructure, the largest in the country, for the vessel construction. The alliance brings together both shipyards’ technological, financial, and operational resources to provide the Indian Navy with the best possible option.

This collaboration represents the spirit of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) as envisioned by the Government of India. The partnership aims to reduce build times, improve quality, and achieve cost efficiency in the construction of these complex platforms by combining the private sector’s efficiency, flexibility, and cost competitiveness with the proven capabilities, quality standards, and credibility of a leading public sector enterprise.
