Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal’s new aviation startup, LAT Aerospace, has unveiled its first fully electric fixed-wing UAV. This was developed entirely in-house in just a few months.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Goyal shared images and a video of the prototype. He called it a “uSTOL technology demonstrator”—a drone designed for ultra-short take-off and landing. He said the aircraft can take off from as short as 40 meters. This is possible thanks to a high lift coefficient of 5. This figure is over twice that of most planes. The UAV also boasts a 60-minute endurance and can autonomously cruise the distance between Mumbai and Pune.

Founded in January 2025 by Goyal and Surobhi Das, LAT Aerospace aims to create a new generation of Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. These are capable of operating from compact air stops rather than traditional airports. The team has already completed ground rolls. They plan to share flight test videos in the coming weeks.

In less than a year since its inception, LAT Aerospace has made rapid progress — from developing its first UAV to advancing research on hybrid-electric propulsion systems. They are also planning their own gas turbine engines. Calling it “one of the hardest engineering challenges possible,” Goyal said the team is determined to make it a reality before the decade ends.
