India is stepping up its global trade push, with the Commerce Ministry confirming steady progress in discussions with the United States. Reciprocal tariffs and market access remain key issues. The ministry said India has agreed to include a tranche of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) in the negotiations. Both teams are actively working toward a formal announcement at a mutually agreed time.

The ministry also dismissed concerns about a fall in India’s electronics exports to the US, calling such conclusions “simplistic.” Officials clarified that the fluctuation is seasonal. They noted that electronics exports to both the US and China have grown by more than 15% year-over-year.

On energy trade, the ministry clarified that India’s plans to buy more LPG from the US are unrelated to the trade talks. These purchases are part of efforts to maintain balanced trade.

A dip in exports to countries like the Netherlands, the UK, and Singapore was linked to lower global oil prices. This price drop reduced the value of petroleum shipments.

Meanwhile, sub-schemes under the Export Promotion Mission will start rolling out by the end of this month. This aims to support growth in key export sectors.

India is also moving forward on other trade fronts. Talks for a Free Trade Agreement with New Zealand are in the final stages. Meanwhile, discussions with the Mercosur bloc are set to continue soon. Both sides are working to expand their existing trade pact.

Officials said these parallel efforts highlight India’s broader strategy. This includes strengthening trade partnerships while addressing structural challenges in its export basket.
