India, Russia Sign MoU to Boost Agri Research & Innovation

Putin & Modi
Both sides agreed to boost cooperation in farm trade, inputs and research.

India and Russia have signed a new MoU to deepen cooperation in agricultural research and innovation. The agreement was finalised between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Russia’s Federal Centre for Animal Health during a meeting between Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Russian counterpart Oxana Lut.

The ministers reviewed ongoing collaboration and discussed new areas for joint work. Chouhan noted that bilateral agricultural trade has grown to $3.5 billion but called for a more balanced exchange.

He also thanked Russia for resolving long-pending issues related to the export of Indian potatoes, pomegranates, and seeds. Russia was invited to attend the BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in India next year.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in agricultural trade, fertilisers, seeds, market access and joint research. They also explored opportunities to boost exports of Indian foodgrain and horticulture products to Russia, aiming to benefit farmers in both nations.
