As the 2026-27 jute season approaches, the government has raised support prices to strengthen farmer incomes.
The Union Cabinet has approved a 5% hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute for the 2026-27 (JulyβJune) season.
The MSP has been raised by Rs 275 per 100 kg, taking it from Rs 5,650 to Rs 5,925 per 100 kg for the 2026-27 season. As a result, the revision is expected to result in an additional financial outgo of around Rs 4.3 billion for the government.
According to the official release, the revised MSP ensures a return of 61.8% over the all-India weighted average cost of production. This is in line with the governmentβs policy of providing remunerative returns to farmers.
The government also noted that the MSP for raw jute has risen 2.5 times since 2014-15. It rose from Rs 2,400 per 100 kg to Rs 5,925 per 100 kg for 2026-27.
The move aims to secure better prices for jute growers and ensure continued procurement under the MSP mechanism.
