HDFC Bank Shares Climb 3% on Strong Q1 Update

HDFC Bank
HDFC Bank gains after a strong Q1 update showed faster loan and deposit growth.

HDFC Bank shares hit a day high of Rs 822.95 on NSE on Monday, 6 July, after a strong Q1 update showed faster loan and deposit growth.

Gross advances stood at Rs 30.61 lakh crore as of 30 June, up 15.4% from Rs 26.53 lakh crore in the same period last year.

Advances under management came in at around Rs 31.27 lakh crore, a rise of 12.4%, the bank said in its exchange filing.

On the deposits side, HDFC Bank closed the quarter with around Rs 31.71 lakh crore, up 14.7% from Rs 27.64 lakh crore a year earlier. CASA deposits, money sitting in current and savings accounts, grew 9.4% to Rs 10.26 lakh crore.

There is no related-party transaction attached to this update. It is a routine quarterly disclosure, not a deal or contract. The update lands alongside some leadership changes at the bank.

Rajiv Kumar, a former Finance Secretary and ex-Chief Election Commissioner, has been appointed Additional Director with effect from 30 June, and the board has cleared him to take over as Part-time Chairman for three years, pending RBI approval.

He would succeed Keki Mistry, who has held the post on an interim basis since Atanu Chakraborty stepped down in March.

Separately, the bank has lined up Puneet Sharma as CFO-designate from 1 September, moving into the CFO role fully by 1 December, and named Jigar Shah as its new General Counsel.

At 10:05 am, HDFC Bank shares were trading at Rs 821.55 on the NSE, up 2.56% for the day. The stock has gained close to 10% over the past month, though it’s still down around 17% over the last year.
