Jack Dorsey-led Block has introduced Buzz, a new open-source workplace collaboration platform that combines human teams and AI agents in a single shared workspace.
Announced on July 21, the platform aims to simplify enterprise collaboration by reducing reliance on separate tools such as Slack, GitHub, and other workflow applications, allowing employees and AI systems to communicate and complete tasks from one centralized environment.
The launch comes as businesses rapidly adopt AI agents to automate coding, documentation, customer support, and operational processes. While many organizations already use multiple AI-powered tools, managing them across disconnected platforms often creates inefficiencies.
Buzz addresses this challenge by integrating various AI-driven workflows into one collaborative environment, enabling teams to interact with both colleagues and AI assistants seamlessly.
Inspired by the simplicity of social communication platforms, Buzz offers threaded conversations, direct messaging, voice capabilities, code repositories, and workflow automation.
The platform is model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and fully open source, giving developers complete access to the underlying code. This flexibility allows organizations to customize the platform, build new features, and deploy tailored workflows that meet their operational requirements.
Although Buzz remains in its early development stage, its source code is already available on GitHub, while the desktop application supports macOS, Windows, and Linux.
The release aligns with Block’s broader AI-focused strategy. In its Q1 2026 shareholder letter, the company highlighted that AI has become central to both its internal operations and product development. Block also reported significant improvements in engineering productivity through its in-house AI systems and raised its financial outlook for 2026, reflecting confidence in its AI-driven transformation.
Buzz will compete directly with established workplace collaboration platforms, including Slack, while also facing emerging AI-native collaboration solutions.
Leveraging Dorsey’s experience in building large-scale communication products, Block aims to position Buzz as a flexible, developer-friendly platform that enables organizations to embrace AI-first collaboration without sacrificing openness or customization.
