The India AI Impact Summit 2026 marked a significant moment in global artificial intelligence cooperation, bringing together representatives from more than 100 countries and 20 international organisations in New Delhi.

The summit, held from February 16 to 21, was the first major global AI summit hosted in the Global South. The event focused on making AI more responsible, inclusive and accessible, with discussions covering AI governance, safety, data protection, infrastructure and the wider impact of the technology on society.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 Declaration was endorsed by 92 countries and international organisations, highlighting broad support for greater international cooperation.

India also used the summit to highlight its growing AI infrastructure. The government announced that an additional 20,000 GPUs would be added to the more than 38,000 GPUs already provisioned under the IndiaAI Mission.

The increased computing capacity is expected to support AI research, startups and the development of home-grown AI applications.

Investment was another major highlight. More than $200 billion in AI-related investments were announced or expected across infrastructure, hardware, foundation models and applications. Reliance Industries pledged $110 billion towards AI-focused infrastructure, while Google announced plans for a $15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam.

The summit also placed strong emphasis on making AI useful beyond technology companies. Initiatives covering healthcare, agriculture, education, accessibility and energy were showcased, while the Global AI Impact Commons was launched to help countries share and scale successful AI applications.

The India AI Impact Summit therefore went beyond being a technology event. It strengthened India’s role in the global AI conversation while highlighting the importance of shared standards, investment, skills and wider access as artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly important part of the global economy.
