Getting a Tatkal ticket on IRCTC has always meant racing the clock, and its new beta website is helping people win that race more often.

According to IRCTC, ticket bookings completed within the first three minutes of the Tatkal window, the busiest and most competitive slot, have gone up by more than 5% since the new site rolled out.

The redesigned website went live on 15 July 2026, as part of Indian Railways’ broader push to modernise its ticket booking system.

IRCTC compared booking data from before and after the launch and found the improvements weren’t limited to just the three-minute window.

Bookings finished within five minutes rose by 3%, and those completed within 30 minutes went up by more than 2% as well.

Behind these numbers is a redesigned interface built to cut down friction during booking, rather than just a fresh coat of paint.

Passengers can now check seat availability across Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, and AC 2 Tier classes on a single screen, instead of switching between pages to compare options.

Based on user feedback, IRCTC has also cut down on repeated CAPTCHA prompts and pop-up messages that used to slow people down mid-booking, changes that matter most during high-pressure Tatkal hours when every second counts.

The push toward a smoother digital experience seems to be paying off in adoption too.

Online ticket bookings made up nearly 90% of total reservations in July 2026, according to IRCTC, easing pressure on physical Passenger Reservation System counters as more travellers shift online.

IRCTC has said the beta website will keep evolving based on passenger feedback, with more updates planned to further improve speed and usability.

For now, though, the early numbers suggest the redesign is doing what it set out to do, making one of India’s most-used digital platforms a little less frustrating during its busiest moments.
