Aegis Logistics surges after the company posted a sharp jump in June quarter profit.

Aegis Logistics shares hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 1,497.80 on Thursday after the company posted a sharp jump in June quarter profit.

Here’s what drove the move. Net profit for the quarter came in at Rs 484 crore, nearly four times the Rs 131 crore reported a year earlier.

Revenue grew 37% to Rs 2,357 crore from Rs 1,719 crore. Operating profit, measured as EBITDA, nearly tripled to Rs 715 crore from Rs 240 crore, and the operating margin expanded sharply to 30.3% from 14%.

In simple terms, the company earned a lot more from every rupee of business this quarter compared to last year. The gas terminal business remained the biggest driver of this growth.

Revenue from that division rose to Rs 2,178.6 crore from Rs 1,575.5 crore, while its profit more than quadrupled to Rs 575.3 crore from Rs 132.1 crore.

The liquid terminal division also grew steadily, with revenue climbing to Rs 178.3 crore from Rs 143.9 crore and profit rising to Rs 109.7 crore from Rs 80.4 crore.

Earnings per share improved to Rs 13.80 from Rs 3.74 a year earlier. These results were approved by the company’s board on Thursday, along with an unmodified review report from the statutory auditors.

Separately, Aegis Logistics is set to hold its 69th annual general meeting on Friday, where shareholders will vote on a final dividend of Rs 6.70 per share for the last financial year.

Shares gave up most of their early gains through the day. As of 14:15 pm on Thursday, Aegis Logistics was trading at Rs 1,396.60 on the NSE, up just 0.06% for the day.
