Netflix has launched the India Storytelling Initiative, a new programme aimed at developing India’s next generation of creative talent.

As part of the initiative, 100 scholarships will be offered through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), giving aspiring creators an opportunity to build skills for careers across the entertainment industry.

The programme was announced during Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos’ meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It reflects Netflix’s growing focus on India’s creative economy and its effort to build a stronger talent pipeline for the country’s expanding media and entertainment sector.

The scholarships will support training in areas linked to animation, visual effects, gaming and comics, commonly grouped under the AVGC sector. These skills are becoming increasingly important as streaming platforms, gaming companies and production studios look for specialised creative talent.

Netflix will work with IICT and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) as part of the broader initiative. The programme is expected to combine training with industry exposure, helping participants understand how ideas are developed and transformed into professional content.

The move builds on Netflix’s earlier efforts to support emerging Indian creators. In July, the company also opened its NextGen India Writers’ Program, a two-month programme offering mentorship and workshops to writers with up to three years of professional experience.

India’s entertainment industry is expanding rapidly across films, streaming, animation and gaming, creating demand for skilled professionals. Initiatives such as this could help young creators gain access to training and industry networks that may otherwise be difficult to find.

For Netflix, the investment also strengthens its long-term relationship with India’s creative community. As Indian stories continue to reach audiences worldwide, developing local talent could play an important role in shaping the country’s next wave of global entertainment.
