HCLTech found no evidence of a breach in its internal systems after hackers claimed access to employee data online.
In an official statement, the IT services major said its early investigation turned up nothing to suggest its systems or any client relationships were compromised.
Here’s what actually happened. A hacker group claimed online that it had accessed employee records from HCLTech.
The company looked into the claim and said whatever data may have been involved appears limited, and could be several years old rather than current information. HCLTech was careful to add that this is still an open investigation.
It hasn’t closed the matter yet and has promised to share any material findings once the probe wraps up.
The company also reiterated that protecting the data entrusted to it remains a core priority.
This isn’t happening in isolation. Just hours earlier, Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest IT firm, made a nearly identical disclosure.
TCS said it had received threat intelligence alerts warning that employee details such as names, job titles and phone numbers were possibly being sold on a hacking forum.
Like HCLTech, TCS said it found no proof that its own systems or customer environments had actually been breached.
Put together, these two disclosures within a short window have put a spotlight on data security at India’s top IT exporters.
Both companies stress that claims made by hackers online don’t automatically mean a real intrusion took place, and in each case, internal checks so far have come up empty.
For now, the story is still developing. HCLTech says it will update the market and the public if its ongoing investigation turns up anything more serious.
